McBee council donates $1,000 to high school band, hears grant updates and sets fall events

The McBee Town Council voted unanimously on Sept. 12 to donate $1,000 to the McBee High School Band to help with travel to a performance in Tennessee. The motion was made by Councilmember Margie A. Hammond and seconded by Councilman James Linton.
Town Hall Administrator Tisha Jones listed upcoming community events: Fall Festival and Trunk-or-Treat on Oct. 28 (6–8 p.m.) at the McBee Recreation Complex, town trick-or-treating on Oct. 31 (6–8 p.m.), the Christmas tree lighting on Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. at the McBee Depot, and the Christmas parade on Dec. 2 at 10 a.m.
Grant writer Jodee Hutchinson reported awards and active applications: a request to the COPS Hiring Program for $271,320 (in process); a Chesterfield County accommodations-tax award of $11,812; a $30,000 award from the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism used to construct a building at the McBee Recreation Complex; a USDA loan/grant for the McBee Police Department of $250,000 (in process); a Community Development Block Grant request for demolition funding of $575,000 (Phase 2, in process); and a Palmetto Pride/SC litter-crew grant request for $10,000 (in process).
Council members also provided brief reports: Councilman Robbie Liles praised the recreation department for its new volleyball program and thanked DOT and town crews for sidewalk repairs; Councilman James Linton commended grant work and maintenance efforts around town wells.
