Ely City Council unanimously accepts Nov. 5 election canvass; Van Camp leads Seat 2 by 11 votes

The Ely City Council met in special session Nov. 13 at the Ely Volunteer Fire Hall and voted unanimously to accept the canvass of returns from the Nov. 5 general election.
City Clerk Jennifer Lee presented the final White Pine County totals for the City of Ely. The canvass shows Melody Van Camp receiving 889 votes (50.31%) and Dean Reynolds receiving 878 votes (49.69%) in the contest for Ely City Council Seat 2. The ballot report lists 1,943 ballots cast out of 2,285 registered voters in the city, a turnout of 85.03%.
Mayor Nathan Robertson presided over the meeting. Councilman Terrill Trask moved to accept the canvass; Councilman Jim Alworth seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
The acceptance of the canvass formalizes the reported vote totals for the contested seat; the record presented to the council lists 1,767 total votes cast in the Seat 2 race (176 blanks reported for that contest). No challenges or public comments were made during the meeting.
After accepting the canvass, Councilman Alworth moved to adjourn the special meeting at 5:02 p.m.; Councilman Trask seconded and the motion carried unanimously. City Clerk Jennifer Lee attested to the minutes.
The council took no additional actions during the session.
