The State of Nevada Board on Indigent Defense Services met virtually on Feb. 6, 2025. Vice Chair Kate Thomas called the meeting to order shortly after 1 p.m., Cynthia Atanazio conducted roll call and the board established a quorum. The meeting covered leadership appointments (Peter Handy as Executive Director and Andrew Coates as Nevada State Public Defender), a Jan. 1 rate increase for appointed counsel, the department's effort to promulgate billing guidelines and provide training, a motion to notify counties about CLE noncompliance and withhold new case assignments until compliance, recruitment and training updates through the LASSO program, workload and staffing progress in Nye, Lyon and Churchill counties, and public comment on White Pine County murder filings following a July prison riot. The board passed motions to implement CLE enforcement steps and to change the June meeting date to be determined, and it heard reports on budget and litigation updates. Vice Chair Thomas adjourned the meeting at approximately 1:59 p.m.
