The board received updates on post-conviction payments and training. Acting Executive Director Peter Handy said staff are working to replenish the category 12 post-conviction fund and are tracking an increased hourly rate change that may raise total costs; Susan Bush reported Clark County had submitted approximately $350,000 in post-conviction bills since Oct. 7.
Deputy Director Brenda Roberts highlighted recent and upcoming recruitment and training efforts: an Oct. 10 LASSO event at Boyd Law School that drew about three dozen attendees and produced at least one rural intern; three externs from Boyd will begin in January focusing on legislative support; the department's annual conference is scheduled for April 2-4, 2025 at the Atlantis hotel in Reno; and multiple virtual CLEs are planned, including juvenile law and research trainings.
Board members praised the virtual CLE offerings as high quality and encouraged continued outreach to rural students and practitioners. Staff said they expect current funds to pay through the third quarter but will request additional support from GFO/IFC if needed.
