Pflugerville ISD swears in Tyler Smith as chief of police

Shepherd said, “Looking out in the audience, I have to say I’ve never been in a room and felt more safe than I feel right now,” and led the assembly through the oath of office.
After the oath, the district completed a ceremonial badge pinning in which Valerie Smith placed the badge on her son. Shepherd described the pinning as a symbol of both the authority and responsibility that come with the role of chief of police and said the district looks forward to “continuing to grow a culture of safety and respect throughout our district.”
Chief Smith thanked the board, staff and officers for a warm welcome after relocating to the area, saying, “You guys have been so welcoming, so warming… I found my new home.” He acknowledged his officers and expressed appreciation for the reception he has received since arriving.
The board invited attendees to stay for a light reception and asked trustees to step off the dais for a group photo. Following those announcements, the board moved to formally adjourn the special meeting. The board recorded that Trustee Daniel had put a motion on the floor to adjourn; the board solicited a second and then called for assent. President Rodrigo Jost closed the meeting at 5:38 p.m.
No formal votes with roll-call tallies were recorded in the transcript; the adjournment was completed by the board’s voice procedures and announcement of closure. The district noted the ceremonial nature of the meeting and that further administrative duties related to the chief’s onboarding will proceed according to district practice.
