Ely council confirms appointments, approves operational items and intergovernmental agreements

- Removal of past-due utility penalties: Approved removing up to $6.05 in past-due penalties for 827 Avenue D (unanimous).
- Proclamation for William "Bill" Hohlt: Proclaimed Dec. 14, 2024 as "William (Bill) Hohlt Day" in Ely, honoring long volunteer service at the Nevada Northern Railway (unanimous).
- Acknowledgement of DA office termination of interlocal agreement: Council acknowledged the White Pine County District Attorney’s termination of the interlocal prosecutor-services agreement effective Dec. 31, 2024 (unanimous); the county cited staffing shortages.
- Appointments: Confirmed Dean Reynolds as the City representative to the Regional Planning Commission through Dec. 31, 2026; accepted Councilwoman Samantha Elliott’s resignation from the Redevelopment Advisory Committee and appointed Councilwoman Melody Van Camp in her stead; and selected Councilwoman Van Camp as a signatory on the City’s First National Bank of Ely accounts (all unanimous).
- Labor MOU: Approved a one-year Memorandum of Understanding with Operating Engineers Local No. 3 to evenly split a 5% wage-rate increase between two employees jointly assuming the EMS coordinator role; term one year (unanimous).
- Cooperative EMS agreement: Approved a Cooperative Agreement for Emergency Medical Services with the Duckwater Shoshone Tribe, effective Jan. 1, 2025, allowing the city to recoup EMS response costs when appropriate (unanimous).
Consent agenda items (minutes and bills) were approved unanimously.
