Councilman Jim Alworth raised concerns about signage and reach of the ban, noting some city-owned parcels such as the Georgetown Ranch and Ragsdale Spring are large and cross rural areas where out-of-town hunters might not realize city rules apply. "We need to do some posting and it's either five-hundred feet or a thousand feet," Alworth said, urging the ordinance be clear on posting requirements and boundaries.
City Attorney Shain Manuele recommended deferring to the NRS for posting specifics rather than adopting a conflicting local standard. "If it's already outlined in the State Statutes, we utilize their Statute and post according to that," Manuele said. Councilman Terrill Trask moved to approve the first reading, amended to reference NRS posting requirements and to limit the prohibition to the City's corporate limits; Councilwoman Samantha Elliott seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The ordinance is at the first-reading stage; council members said they expect additional review and potential textual changes prior to a final hearing and adoption.
