The Oakland Town Commission voted July 14 to proceed with paving of East Vick Street and to award the work to Seminole Paving for $41,510.49, using general-fund dollars this fiscal year.
Town manager Elise presented multiple bids for the project and recommended awarding the contract to Seminole Paving at the $41,510.49 price point. "Our recommendation is ... to award the proposal to Seminole Paving in the amount of $41,510 and to execute any necessary documents," Elise said.
Commissioners debated sequencing and budget impacts. One commissioner urged completing previously started projects before beginning new ones: "In my personal opinion is we finish a project before we move on to another one," a commissioner said during discussion. Staff clarified that the $215,000 allocated for the Southern Oaks project would be pushed to next year's budget rather than rolled over line-by-line, and that moving Southern Oaks to next year would allow East Vick to be funded this year.
A motion that authorized $41,510.49 from this year’s budget for East Vick Street, approved Seminole Paving’s proposal, and authorized the town manager to execute necessary documents passed with verbal 'Aye' votes.
The town manager also noted that the start date and schedule will be provided to the commission once direction is formalized and that any additional paving needs will be considered in future budgets.
