San Antonio’s City Council on Feb. 19 approved a plan amendment and change-of-zoning for property at 322 Tarasco Drive, moving the site from a suburban tier designation to a mixed-use center and rezoning the parcel to allow commercial uses with conditions.
Planning staff told the council the proposal included rezoning from C-3-R to C-3-C-D with a conditional use for manufactured-home and oversized-vehicle sales, service or storage. "Staff, planning commission, and zoning commission recommend approval with conditions being installation of a 15 foot type B landscape buffer yard along the northern property line and that vehicular ingress/egress is not to be permitted along Tarasco Drive," planning staff said during their presentation.
The applicant amended their proposal to C-3-R-C-D, and staff reported 24 mailed notices with two returned in favor and none opposed; the Rainbow Hills Area Neighborhood Association signaled support. Councilman Munguia moved to approve the items with the conditions as read. The council then voted and the motion carried.
Why it matters: the approval allows the site to transition toward mixed-use activity while requiring a vegetated buffer and restricting driveway access on the street adjacent to single-family homes, measures that planning staff said were intended to protect nearby residences.
The council’s approval ends the council’s consideration of items 10 and 11 for this meeting; no further public testimony was recorded on these two items.
