The Waukesha Board of Public Works voted to approve 10 payments at its Thursday meeting, including a final payment related to the cemetery administration building’s HVAC replacement. The board’s motion to approve the minutes and the payments passed during the item.
City staff said the two furnaces cited in the payment package cost about $25,000 each because they were installed in the attic and required replacement of all ductwork, which increased installation complexity. "These furnaces at the cemetery building are an attic install," a staff member said, noting that ductwork was also replaced and that the installation is more difficult than a standard residential basement set‑up.
A board member asked why the price was so high; staff replied that the installation location and the full HVAC replacement drove the cost. Staff also told the board they expect some federal funding from the EECBG program may help offset the project. "It does look like we are going to get the federal grant funding for some of this cost as well to the EECBG program," the staff member said, and the board requested staff report back if that funding is confirmed.
The board approved the payments without further change. The meeting then moved on to several contract change orders and other routine items.
