The Board held a public hearing and then adopted an ordinance amending the Sustainable Land Development Code to change governance of public improvement districts (PIDs). Under the existing code the Board of County Commissioners served directly as the PID board; the amendment authorizes the BCC to appoint a five‑member PID board of directors, authorize applicant‑nominated directors subject to approval and create vacancy and term procedures.
Staff said the change will apply to the Ascentia Public Improvement District, which the board previously authorized in February; staff indicated they will return at the next meeting with recommended initial appointments and proposed director compensation. County attorneys on the record noted the Public Improvement District Act anticipates that after initial appointed terms residents can seek election to serve on the PID board.
No members of the public spoke during the hearing. Commissioners approved the ordinance by roll call; vote was recorded as all five voting "yes." Staff and legal counsel said subsequent PID appointments and the election processes are expected to be managed per statutory guidance and the PID resolution.
