Santa Fe County authorized the county manager to negotiate a purchase agreement for a commercial property adjacent to the existing La Sala crisis triage and detox center, staff said Monday.
Anne Ryan of the County's Community Services Department told the commission the off‑site building is 9,444 square feet, listed at $1,750,000 and well configured for the county’s needs with multiple entrances, treatment rooms and parking that can accommodate emergency vehicles. "This current building is listed at 1,750,000 and is 9,444 square feet," she said.
Ryan and Ashley Cisneros from Public Works said staff found the existing La Sala site unsuitable for expansion without losing vital parking for ambulances and large vehicles; acquiring the adjacent building would allow services to continue while the current site is renovated. County staff described an available $1.5 million reauthorization to apply to purchase costs and noted an approved Behavioral Health Reform and Investment Act allocation of $1.9 million that could fill any funding gaps and cover renovation costs.
Commissioners asked about privacy screening, site orientation and phasing for planning and design. Commissioner Adam Johnson said the location was "kismet" and praised the proximity to courts and health services. Commissioner Camilla Bustamante described personal experience with La Sala and said the center "really makes a difference" for families. After discussion on budget sources and timing, the board voted to approve a resolution delegating authority to the county manager to negotiate and move forward with appraisal and due diligence. The resolution was identified in meeting materials as number 2026094.
Staff said next steps include due diligence, appraisal and inspection followed by design and renovation if procurement is successful. The board recorded the motion and approved it by voice vote.
