Fernley staff seeks project ideas for 2027 CDBG application; public process announced

Fernley — City grant administrator Tricia Livingston presented the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) 2027 program overview, explained the program’s national objectives and eligibility criteria, and announced the public participation schedule for project submission.
Livingston said the 2027 rural CDBG program expects approximately $2.9 million statewide and that Fernley is one of 26 eligible jurisdictions. Eligible activities include acquisition, public facilities and infrastructure improvements (water, sewer, parks, sidewalks), economic development and planning. The program prioritizes projects that benefit low‑ and moderate‑income persons, eliminate slums and blight, or address imminent threats to community health or welfare.
Staff noted the city has historically received CDBG awards for parks, sidewalks, and small-business assistance (more than $2.7 million awarded since 2002) and currently has no open CDBG grants. Livingston outlined next steps: three public meetings are required as part of the citizen participation process; the next public meeting will be Aug. 19 and staff will return with a prioritized list of potential projects and estimated funding requests.
Action: Council voted 4–0 to accept the presentation, authorize staff outreach for project ideas and return with a projects list for submittal.
