Brian Boyle, the town’s buildings inspector and Police Station Committee presenter, outlined a proposed site plan for a new police building, a salt barn and the relocation of the brush dump and recycling center. Boyle told the Board the estimated tax impact of the project is "$0.14 per thousand," and he relayed concerns from multiple town departments and stakeholders.
The committee’s proposal includes a new building footprint and accessory facilities intended to consolidate operations. Boyle said departments flagged operational and community issues including vehicle turning radius, the locker room layout, the need for a sally port and limited one-way access that could affect ingress and egress. He also reported potential impacts to existing parking, land held in trust by the Kimball Trust, and to cemetery grave sites adjacent to the proposed work.
Those concerns were voiced as requests for further design refinements rather than votes on a specific site or plan. The Board did not take a formal vote on the project at this meeting; Boyle’s presentation served as an informational update and a prompt for additional review and input from the police department, the Historical Society, the library and cemetery stakeholders.
Next steps noted by the Board included continued committee work and additional design consideration to address the operational and preservation concerns raised. No funding authorization or contract award was recorded in the minutes for this agenda item.
