Stuart council re-advertises Community Coordinator job; manager reports $1M EPA grant, project updates

The Stuart Town Council voted unanimously to re-advertise the Community Coordinator position after the person hired earlier this year accepted a job with the school system. Town Manager Bryce Simmons said the revised posting emphasizes Farmers Market management and festival coordination and that the council suggested replacing "downtown business community" with "business community" and adding "additional duties as assigned."

Simmons also reported a series of operational and project updates: Progress Meeting No. 5 for the filter backwash and sewer outfall was held June 10 and Pay Application No. 2 (about $300,000) was approved; replacement of anthracite filter media at the water treatment plant is proceeding gradually; the Town acknowledged an EPA Community Project Grant award of approximately $1 million for sewer equalization design and engineering (construction estimated at about $10 million); work on a USDA generator project continues with Dewberry revising the engineering report following national USDA review; the Town is assisting the Mayo River Rail Trail with surveying and vine removal under a Department of Forestry grant and will hold a ribbon-cutting June 20; three contractors have expressed interest in demolition quotes for 411 Dobyns Road; SLR Enterprises is expected to begin manhole repairs after a vehicle struck a manhole; revised FEMA flood maps are entering an appeal period; the Town received $15,000 in Virginia Fire Programs Aid to be passed through to the Fire Department; the 2025 Consumer Confidence Report was distributed; code-enforcement efforts will intensify for nuisance properties; and the Town Office will be closed June 19 for Juneteenth.

Council approved the Community Coordinator advertising motion on a motion by Rebecca Adcock, seconded by Erica Wade. The meeting concluded with approval of bills and adjournment.
