Wauneta EMS presents building upgrade quotes; commissioners raise utility concern, approve fairgrounds rental

Wauneta EMS Captain Leanne Klein joined the Chase County Commissioners on June 23 to present a quarterly report and contractor quotes for finishing interior bathroom, office and kitchenette work at the service's new building and for an air-conditioning unit for the structure.
Klein told commissioners that the EMS service received $11,000 in donations from a local giving event last winter and that the service was willing to purchase the AC unit itself. Commissioners noted, however, that the Village is responsible for utilities under an existing interlocal agreement, and said the county cannot authorize measures that would change utility usage without Village approval. Commissioner Brown suggested considering a smaller, air-conditioned office/meeting room rather than installing AC for the entire building.
Separately, the board approved a three-year rental agreement with the Eagles for the food booth under the grandstands at the fairgrounds. The motion to approve the rental agreement carried with Muehlenkamp absent; Brown yes; Bernhardt yes.
No formal county funding commitment for the EMS AC unit was approved; commissioners left decisions contingent on utility responsibility under the interlocal agreement and encouraged the EMS service to refine plans.
