Chase County commissioners approve claims, contracts and 3% pay increases

Chase County Commissioners met June 23 in the courthouse meeting room and approved routine county business including claims and several contracts and pay adjustments.
The board approved claims submitted for payment after reviewing itemized totals across funds. The record lists General Fund claims totaling $260,283.78, Road Fund claims totaling $117,909.78 and a Grand Total All Claims of $388,989.80. Commissioners voted to approve the claims (Muehlenkamp absent; Brown yes; Bernhardt yes).
Assessor Mueller presented and the board approved a five-year Consolidated Extended Service Contract with Vanguard Appraisals, Inc., commencing Oct. 28, 2026, at $18,700 per year. Commissioner Bernhardt moved to approve the contract; Commissioner Brown seconded and the motion passed (Muehlenkamp absent; Brown yes; Bernhardt yes).
The board approved a 3% wage increase for road employees and a separate 3% increase for transit employees, both effective July 1, 2026. Separately, commissioners set monthly stipend amounts of $750 for each of the Ambulance Administrator, Zoning Administrator and Transit Administrator, effective July 1, 2026. Motions carried with Muehlenkamp absent; Brown yes; Bernhardt yes.
Commissioners approved Resolution 2026-9 to correct a clerical budgeting error by transferring $3,122.22 from function 0100-970 to 0100-601 to increase budget authority for the affected function. The resolution passed on a unanimous vote of the present members.
The board also approved a two-year Interlocal Agreement for a District Court Bailiff beginning July 1, 2026; Chase County's share of the cost is $1,397.37 per quarter. That motion carried (Muehlenkamp absent; Brown yes; Bernhardt yes).
Chairman Bernhardt moved to approve the minutes of the June 9, 2026 meeting and those minutes were adopted (Muehlenkamp absent; Brown yes; Bernhardt yes). With no further county business after discussion of late Fair Board invoices, the meeting was adjourned at 11:05 a.m.
The board left the agenda item on surplus property (dozer and grader) on the calendar for the next meeting.
