Clifton schedules joint hearing on Northern Virginia regional water‑supply plan

The Clifton Town Council voted Nov. 1 to advertise and hold a joint Planning Commission and Town Council public hearing on Dec. 6, 2011, to consider adoption of the draft Northern Virginia Regional Water Supply Plan. Susan Yantis, speaking for the Planning Commission, told the council the commission provided a suggested resolution and recommended the joint hearing, and the council agreed to schedule the meeting and to hear a presentation from Mr. Goulet of the Northern Virginia Regional Commission.
The hearing will allow council members and residents to review the draft plan and hear regional staff explain projected supply, demand and recommended actions. The Planning Commission provided a suggested resolution to streamline the council’s consideration; councilors voted to hold the joint public hearing by motion of Wayne Nickum, seconded by Bill Hollaway, with the motion approved unanimously.
The Dec. 6 joint hearing is the next procedural step for town consideration of the regional plan. The council did not adopt the plan at the Nov. 1 meeting; it instead scheduled the public hearing and asked that Northern Virginia Regional Commission staff present details and answer questions at that session.
