Council approves two planning items, ARB rulings draw objection; Pink House HVAC vendor selected and BZA nominees recommended

The Clifton Town Council voted on several planning, architectural and facilities matters at its March 6 meeting.
Planning Commission recommendations approved: a 96-square-foot porch addition for James Witt at 12708 Clifton Heights Lane was accepted on a motion by Wayne Nickum. The council also accepted a recommendation allowing Alexandra Soper and her business All That Glitters to relocate to 7144 Main Street with an allocation of four parking spaces and posted hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Sunday; the council emphasized that sidewalk signs should not be placed on the walkways.
Dwayne Nitz reported that the Architectural Review Board had approved Mr. Witt’s porch and also approved installation of plaid windows. Council member Chuck Rusnak objected to the plaid windows as not historically appropriate; Nitz said the windows were approved because they are not noticeable from a distance. ARB also discussed identifying contractors on Use Permit applications and suggested requiring bonds on permits.
Under unfinished business, the council considered replacement of the Pink House A/C–heating system. Deborah Dillard moved to select Anderson to work on interior HVAC components with added exterior grilles; the motion passed with Chuck Rusnak recorded as opposed. The council then moved to recommend five individuals to the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA): Steve Effros (term expiring Feb. 1, 2013, subject to confirmation of qualifications), Brant Baber (term to July 1, 2017), Tony Lustre (term to July 1, 2016), Diane Dygve (term to July 1, 2015), and Michelle Stein (term to July 1, 2014); the motion to recommend was recorded as unanimously approved.
Council support was expressed for modest Ayre Square sprucing and for upcoming community events including a Dinner Theatre (March 22–24) and the Clifton Art Guild grand opening March 17 at NOVA Music Centre. The meeting adjourned at 11:10 p.m.
