Council reappoints town officers, limits Main Street banners and approves Labor Day car show

At its July 3 meeting the Clifton Town Council carried a slate of administrative actions and event approvals.
Appointments and reappointments approved unanimously included reappointing Clerk Kathleen Barton, Treasurer Marilyn Barton and Town Attorney Gifford Hampshire to terms expiring June 30, 2014; reappointing Dwayne Nitz as Vice Mayor; naming Chuck Rusnak as the Council's Planning Commission representative; reappointing Royce Jarrendt and Dwayne Nitz to the ARB; reappointing Mac Arnold and Kurt Watts to the Clean Up committee (terms to March 4, 2016); reauthorizing signatures on the Town's bank accounts for Mayor Bill Hollaway, Councilmember Wayne Nickum and Treasurer Marilyn Barton; and appointing Mary Mills chair of the Clifton Holmes Tour Committee.
On unfinished business, Councilmember Wayne Nickum presented proposed banner rules restricting banner approvals to events within the town and prohibiting banners for for-profit entities; the Council moved that only banners previously approved by the Town Council will be hung over Main Street and approved the policy.
Under new business, Mayor William R. Hollaway presented a resolution to approve the Clifton Lions Club Labor Day Car Show on Sept. 3, 2012. The resolution authorizes closing the town to traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the Lions Club will donate $500 to the town and an additional $500 as a Clifton Gala sponsor and will provide event insurance. Council approved the resolution; a possible parking limitation at Flood Plain Park was noted as a concern.
The meeting adjourned after approval of these items.
