Nebraska City Council unanimously approves permits, alley vacations, and utility work orders

The Nebraska City Council on June 15 approved a bundle of routine and infrastructure items by unanimous vote.
Consent and event permits: The council approved consent items including minutes from June 1 and claims for June 2–June 15. It approved a Block Party application for July 4 on N 14th Street and the closure of 2nd Corso for the First Baptist Church Sports Challenge Event July 20–24. The council also approved the NCTC Treestock Event to be held at Steinhart Park on July 4, 2026; Commissioner Patrick Wehling moved to approve and Commissioner Ron Osovski seconded; Krystal Knabe explained the event.
Property actions: The council approved two alley vacations in Greggsport Addition. One motion (moved by Commissioner Joe Chaney, seconded by Patrick Wehling) vacated an alley at Lot 4, Block 72. A second motion (moved by Chaney, seconded by Cole Sharp) vacated Lots 5 & 6, Block 72 and reserved the right to purchase for $400 plus applicable fees.
Utilities and infrastructure: The council approved two Board of Public Works work orders. BPW WO#73.00564.2359 would replace 6,000 feet of 3-inch steel gas main east and north of County Road F & County Road 42 at a cost of $56,941.20; the motion was moved by Commissioner Ron Osovski and seconded by Commissioner Joe Chaney. BPW WO#75.00564.3322 would replace 825 feet of cast iron water main from 5th Ave & 13th St to 6th Ave & 12th St for $106,712.50 to address leaks and improve fire protection; the same mover/second were recorded. Both motions passed unanimously.
Financial/legal and personnel actions: Commissioner Cole Sharp moved, and Commissioner Osovski seconded, Resolution 3009-26 authorizing filing a collection action to enforce personal guarantees related to loans to Waste Container Systems, LLC; council approval was unanimous. The council also approved paying tuition and full pay for Marianne Chesterman to attend Leadership Nebraska City (LNC) Class #22 (moved by Sharp, seconded by Chaney) and approved a Substitution of Trustee to Drew Graham to facilitate a transfer for KMV Properties, LLC (moved by Sharp, seconded by Osovski). All votes recorded in the minutes were unanimous.
The minutes list detailed vendor claims and the Treasurer’s report for the period; total Nebraska City funds were recorded as $9,788,250.97 with utility cash/reserve of $10,202,997.18 (combined $19,991,248.15) as of May 31, 2026. The meeting adjourned at 6:58 p.m.
