The La Plata Historic Preservation Commission voted on July 17 to adopt a professional trades (preservation professionals) directory as an informational resource and to post it on the town website.
Staff said the list was reviewed by the town attorney and is intended as a public, dynamic directory rather than an official endorsement. The staff member said the directory is “more as a public service or informational item” and that it is the responsibility of users to vet licenses and trade abilities.
Several commissioners asked for more local representation in the listing. One commissioner said they were able to identify only two local names across the packet, with most entries from other parts of the state. A commissioner also reported repeated website download errors (HTTP 403) while attempting to view materials.
Motion and outcome: A commissioner moved to accept the list with the understanding it will evolve and be augmented; another commissioner seconded the motion and the commission approved it by voice vote. Staff said they will post the directory on the town website and accept additions for future updates.
Next steps: staff will make the directory publicly accessible and accept nominations or additional professionals for inclusion in the dynamic list.
