Winfield council adds $73,000 for streets truck, approves server contract

The Winfield City Council on Feb. 11 voted to add $73,000 to the city budget to purchase a truck for the streets department. Council member Ryan Powers moved the budget addition; the motion carried.
Mayor Randy Barrett said he received a contract for one physical server and a cloud backup server; the contract was signed at the meeting and the mayor indicated delivery would be about three weeks. City Clerk/Treasurer Nikki Phillips said she met with the city’s accountant, Debbi Rabel, who advised the General Fund should pay the server cost because of depreciation and how the funds are used; the council agreed to that approach and may reevaluate sanitary rent after one year.
The council also approved an $80 payment for a quarter-page ad in the Winfield Middle School yearbook containing a no-bullying safety message prepared by the police department. A separate donation request from the Winfield High School tennis team was deferred because the team had not provided the correct paperwork.
Council scheduled a budget work session for March 19, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. to review additional budget items including raises and PEIA. The minutes record motions and approvals but do not include roll-call tallies for these votes.
