Chief of Police Jeff Losh told the Winfield City Council on April 15 that the department handled "over 166 calls for service," including two arrests on Kanawha County warrants and two unattended deaths.
Losh said officers qualified with new firearms on April 1 and that Officer Fletcher resigned on April 10; he said if the department fills the vacancy it will seek an officer who is certified. The minutes record no formal personnel vote or timeline for hiring.
Mayor Randy Barrett told the council he, Laura Cox and Chief Losh will meet about a new police grant opportunity "that could be up to $500,000." The council also noted that a police vehicle earmark previously approved has been resubmitted to U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore-Capito’s office for the upcoming fiscal budget.
The minutes present the department’s operational numbers and staffing changes as informational reports; no formal motions or funding decisions tied to the grant or hiring were recorded at the meeting.
