Resident reports title problem; council addresses animal control and blessing box requests

At the Sept. 11 Udall City Council meeting, resident Steve Brown told officials that Kansas Secured Title, Inc. informed him the Real Estate Purchase contract for 118 East 1st Street (Lots 17 and 18) is out of date and needs to be re-executed; the City Clerk said she will prepare a new contract for signatures and will contact the title company to ask whether closing costs can be waived because of the elapsed time.

During 'business from the floor,' Jeanine Daniels raised an ongoing nuisance: she said a neighbor’s cat had repeatedly defecated on her property and damaged flower beds. The record shows Officer Boyer had written a citation to the cat owners; they are scheduled to appear in court in October. Ernie Daniels also pressed the council about cleanup of a property south of his and asked for more dirt to be delivered; maintenance agreed to deliver and spread the dirt.

Community volunteers asked the council for two modest adjustments to the local blessing box. Sarah Martin (NICE Committee) and Mary Hilderbrand (Sun Club) requested a cooler be added to the existing box for perishable donations and asked that boxes be moved to the front of City Hall during winter months for easier access. The council approved the changes provided a sign is posted stating items are donated and are taken 'at your own risk.'

Next steps: the City Clerk will prepare the purchase-contract paperwork and contact Kansas Secured Title, Inc.; maintenance will follow up on the requested dirt delivery; and volunteers will add a cooler and signage to the blessing box as directed by the council.
