The Valley School District Board of Directors on Oct. 24, 2024, met virtually for a special work session to receive professional learning on the Professional Learning Community (PLC) process from Janel Keating of Solution Tree. Bill Wilson, a district director, called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. and roll call confirmed a quorum with directors Paul Voelker, Doug Elledge and Nancy Cocroft present; Crystal Hubert was excused.
The session, presented as part of the district’s strategic plan, reviewed the history and mechanics of PLCs and focused on the four guiding questions that structure PLC work: what students should learn (essential standards), how the district will know they learned it (assessment), interventions for students who do not learn it, and enrichment for students who do. Board members interacted with Dr. Mandi Rehn, the superintendent, and the presenter during an interactive segment intended to help the board apply PLC concepts to district instruction and supports.
The board did not vote on any motions or adopt policy during the meeting. The minutes state this training was the first of a three-part series provided for school boards. The meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m.; the minutes were signed Nov. 20, 2024.
