Udall board accepts KDHE testing grant and approves FFA national trip funding

At its Sept. 9 meeting the Udall Unified School District #463 Board of Education heard a grant update and student presentations and approved support for student travel. School nurse Sandy Jirak told the board USD 463 was awarded approximately $47,000 from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment K-12 Infectious Disease Management (IDM) testing grant.
Members of the Udall FFA leadership team presented their 2024–25 program and requested district assistance for lodging, activity and meal costs to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. The board authorized support for the trip expenses of $3,482, recorded in the minutes as passing 6-0.
Board members also raised questions about athletics roster management, uniform purchases and funding sources; Superintendent Heidi Perkins said many schools use gate-entry fees, booster clubs and Recreation Commission support and stated no supply requests had been denied. Board members discussed potential conflicts and rules for board members serving on booster clubs; Adrianne King said she had contacted KSHHA for guidance and was awaiting a response.
The meeting minutes list the KDHE grant acceptance and the FFA trip support among approved consent and business items; they do not include detailed budget line-item amounts for the districtwide 2024–25 budget beyond these items. The board adjourned at 7:26 PM.
