Udall council approves staff travel, requests service quotes and weighs phone carrier change

Councilor Jim Caywood moved to approve payment of $133 plus mileage and food for Shayla Boyer to attend the Annual Court Clerks Conference in Manhattan, Kan., on March 28, 2025; Councilor Craig Hopkins seconded and the motion carried, all ayes. Council discussed solid-waste service and asked staff to obtain quotes from English Trash Service and Evergreen Waste Management. On city cell phones, staff reported that Verizon has not resolved service problems for over a month; the city obtained replacement phones for Tavis Hart and Kendra Boyer. Switching to AT&T was discussed; the minutes note an estimated payoff to Verizon of approximately $1,700 would be required before changing carriers and that monthly costs would be about the same. The council asked that the phone-service issue be brought back at the March meeting.
Maintenance staff raised the need to purchase a new lawn mower this spring and asked whether leasing with scheduled trade-ins would be an option; councilors discussed the possibility but recorded no purchase motion. Councilor Randy Hoffman also asked when Microsoft Teams livestreaming of council meetings will go live; the target date discussed was June 2025 and he requested that someone call in to test the system. The meeting adjourned at 7:54 p.m. after a motion by Caywood and a second by Hopkins; the vote was unanimous.
