Council gives first reading to update false alarm fees in Monroe Municipal Code

The Monroe City Council on July 14 took the first reading of an ordinance to amend Chapter 9.14 of the Monroe Municipal Code to update false alarm fees and bring the code into alignment with a recently revised master fee schedule.
Jodi Wykoff, city staff, told the council the Police Department reviewed fee structures and found some service fees were lower than comparable jurisdictions; an updated fee schedule and Resolution 2025‑26 (as referenced in staff remarks) had been approved and the ordinance would implement those changes in the municipal code so the Police Department can begin enforcement.
Council Member Beaumont moved to accept first reading of the ordinance amending MMC chapter 9.14; Council Member Fulcher seconded. The motion passed on a 6–0 voice vote.
Staff said they were available to answer follow-up questions and that the ordinance provides severability and an effective date consistent with the master fee schedule.
