Washington council approves sale of industrial lot to meat processor; OKs EMT training contract

The Washington City Council on Jan. 16 voted to convey Lot 15 in the city’s industrial park to Bob’s Locker LLC for a meat slaughter and processing facility and approved a contract and related grant actions to support EMT training for Courtney Porter.
Council Member Mary Ann Crome moved to convey Lot 15 to Bob’s Locker LLC with conditions that construction begin within six months of the deed and that the property be used only for industrial, manufacturing, commercial or storage purposes; failure to comply would revert the property to the city. Council Member Jerry Fuhrken seconded the motion, which passed with the council members voting aye: Amy Anderson, Mary Ann Crome, Jerry Fuhrken, Terry Morse and Carolyn Pinnick.
Council Member Amy Anderson moved to approve and authorize the mayor to sign a contract with Courtney Porter for EMT training; Mary Ann Crome seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The council then moved to authorize the Service Director to sign the Education Incentive grant document for Courtney Porter; Amy Anderson moved, Jerry Fuhrken seconded, and that motion also passed. The minutes do not specify the grant amount or the funding source.
During the meeting the council voted multiple times to enter executive session to discuss employee performance and employee reviews, setting resume times at 6:45 p.m., 7:00 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. Council Member Terry Morse made each motion and Jerry Fuhrken seconded. The minutes record no public comments during the meeting.
Mayor Garett Edgar led the meeting and City Administrator Carl Chalfant and City Clerk Denise M. Powell were listed as staff present. The meeting adjourned at 7:16 p.m.
