The Old Bridge Zoning Board of Adjustment on July 16 unanimously approved a C variance for a small covered portico at 5 Leanne Court.
Chairman Sullivan opened the matter after the applicant, Arthur Lesler, and his architect, Gregory Wagga, described a 37-square-foot open-air portico that would attach to an existing stair and align with a sunroom previously approved by the board. Wagga said the portico would not expand the building footprint or increase impervious coverage and that columns would bear on an existing, structurally sound stair assembly.
Board professionals confirmed the addition would encroach into a setback (17.63 feet on one side and 18.5 feet on the other where a 50-foot frontage setback is required) but that the request represents a modest relief to bring an as‑built condition into compliance. No members of the public appeared to object during the open hearing segment.
Board member Izzo moved to approve the C variance and Miss Andrews seconded; the roll call vote was unanimous in favor. Chairman Sullivan said a written resolution will be prepared for the next meeting.
The board closed the hearing by thanking the applicants and noting the matter would be memorialized in the board's next resolution packet.
