Superintendent Dr. Murphy reviews commencement events, summer programs and bond work

Superintendent Dr. Murphy told the HAUPPAUGE UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT board that the end of the school year featured moving-up ceremonies at elementary and middle schools and commencement at the high school, and congratulated the Class of 2026.
"It was just another incredible year," Dr. Murphy said, summarizing the district's year-end activities and praising staff and students. He said many graduates will attend colleges the district visited on an annual college tour, including visits reported to Binghamton, Cornell, Geneseo and Niagara Falls; he also mentioned planned visits to the University at Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and SUNY Cortland.
Dr. Murphy noted that classrooms are quieter in summer but that district staff — custodial, maintenance, security and grounds crews — are preparing buildings for the fall. He pointed to ongoing work across district campuses funded by a bond passed three years earlier and said the board will conduct walkthroughs at the end of August ahead of reopening.
Under personnel items, Dr. Murphy reported that Grace Murphy is in attendance and will fill a newly approved position at Bretton Woods Elementary School; the superintendent said the position was approved by the board and will require regular meeting attendance.
The superintendent closed by wishing families a safe summer and reminding the community that the district will be ready to welcome students back in roughly seven weeks. The board then moved on to other business.
