Decatur to use CEDIT funds for USI Title VI/ADA work; staff give street and parks updates

The City of Decatur Common Council on May 19 authorized the use of CEDIT funds to hire USI Consultants for Title VI and ADA compliance and received routine departmental updates.
Matt Schultz, Street/Sanitation Superintendent, said the Board of Public Works and Safety had approved using USI Consultants to assist with Title VI and ADA compliance. Schultz said CEDIT funds could cover $45,000 in 2026 and $10,000 in 2027 for the work. Scott Murray moved to utilize the available CEDIT funds for USI Consultants; Jenny Bowers‑Shultz seconded and the motion was adopted.
Schultz also reported veterans’ flags had arrived and been properly hung throughout the City, 12th Street is finished, and Wayne asphalt paving is scheduled to start in a couple of weeks. Parks & Recreation Superintendent Cara Gerber told the council park trails will be paved this summer and a portion of the REV parking lot will be fixed; she noted a 40‑team baseball tournament will be held June 12–14, featuring Decatur Diamond Dining.
On bridge work, in response to a question from Councilmember Matt Dyer, staff said crews cannot enter the water until July 1 because of fish spawning and remain on schedule for completion by the end of August. Councilmember Scott Murray raised concerns about out‑of‑city residents using recycling bins at the City facility, described an incident involving cardboard from an individual in Monroe and suggested clearer rules, updated cameras and fines to address misuse.
The council also approved payment of claims and adjourned at 7:47 p.m.
