The City of Decatur Common Council on May 19 voted to suspend, for one year, two CF‑1 tax abatements previously granted to Champion Home Builders, Inc.
Councilmember Matt Dyer said there were concerns about the numbers on the CF‑1 forms and noted no representative from Champion Home Builders was present to answer questions. Dyer moved to suspend the CF‑1 personal property tax abatement for one year; Scott Murray seconded and the motion passed. Dyer then moved to suspend the CF‑1 real estate tax abatement for one year; Jenny Bowers‑Shultz seconded and that motion also passed.
The council did not adopt a replacement or alternative abatement at the May 19 meeting; both suspensions are effective for one year and will return to the council if Champion Home Builders seeks reinstatement or further council action.
