Community Choice Schools Commission wins another year of funding, readies application materials

A representative of the Community Choice Schools Commission told the Board of Public Education that the commission received notice of another year of grant funding and that it has prepared application templates, annual-report forms and renewal procedures for upcoming use.
"We just received notice this week that we received our grant application for another year of funding. The director's position was approved," the commission representative (identified in the transcript as Kathy) told the board. She said the commission is drafting a new application-policy packet that will lay out pre-application guidance, interview templates, annual-report templates, and renewal procedures; the packet will go to the commission for approval in December.
Kathy said the commission is also seeking policy guidance on ensuring special-education compliance for small and rural specialty schools, including how authorizers should evaluate applicants on IDEA compliance and practical capacity. The commission plans a Year 0 planning phase and public webinars; Kathy said the commission will hold a December meeting on Zoom to cover officer elections, evaluation-criteria revisions and other business.
Board members thanked the commission representative and raised no objections; OPI and commission staff will continue coordination ahead of the December commission meeting.
