Airport files for commercial service grants; Fly Salem advances to formal application with $1.5 million request

Agency official told commissioners the application period for the Small Community Air Service Development (SCASD) program through the U.S. Department of Transportation has closed and that the airport’s application is public. "Our consultant feels like we have a really good case for this," the Agency official said, noting staff and consultants expect decisions or next steps in August or September.
Staff said the airport received a letter of support from the federal delegation recommending the DOT consider the airport's application. Separately, Agency official said Fly Salem was among nine applicants selected to move forward to a formal application phase in a separate grant process; the Fly Salem request was described as $1,500,000 and now requires a video presentation and additional materials as part of the competitive selection.
No formal decisions were made at the meeting. Staff will continue to monitor DOT’s SCASD review timeline and the outcome of the Fly Salem application process and will report back to the commission as results are available.
