Schenectady board approves personnel reclassifications, recognizes two assistant principals and moves to executive session

The Schenectady City School District Board of Education on July 15 approved a personnel resolution (item 4d) the board described as title and classification changes rather than new positions, recognized two assistant principals and entered executive session for legal advice on governance.

A committee member raised whether item 4d conflicted with the budget the board previously approved, asking how the district could add positions after adopting a budget. Dana, a district staff member, replied that the positions were included in the budget and that the changes were primarily title reclassifications under civil service; she said one position had been eliminated and another restructured to absorb responsibilities. "It's just basically a title change for more responsibility," Dana said, and staff confirmed the items were budgeted.

Trustees approved the consent agenda (items 4a through 4t) with item 4d removed for separate consideration; after discussion the board approved item 4d. The board then recognized Lori Cornwell and Stewart Bronthew Ward as assistant principals at Oneida and asked them to stand for congratulations.

Before adjourning the public portion of the meeting, the board voted to enter executive session under New York Public Officers Law §105 to receive advice of counsel on board governance matters.

Motions at the meeting were carried by voice vote; the transcript records "Aye" and does not include a roll-call or individual votes. The board will handle follow-up steps through Human Resources and the Finance department as needed.
