Council approves $82,455 change order to finish Ryder Park baseball field project

The Grand Island City Council approved a change order to finalize renovation work at Ryder Park's baseball field, increasing the construction contract by $82,455.
Todd McCoy presented the item, saying the city has a contract with Neemaha Sports Construction of Lincoln to renovate the field and that the project has reached near completion. McCoy provided before-and-after photos and described the work completed: synthetic turf, new grandstand bucket seats, painted press box and additional viewing areas. He said the current project total before tonight's action was $3,746,120.35 and that the change order would raise the contract to $3,823,575.35.
The change order represents a series of about 14 miscellaneous final items. McCoy said concession building and restroom construction remain and are being funded privately. Councilmember Nickerson moved to approve the change order (filed as 2026-188); Councilmember O'Neil seconded the motion. The council voted to adopt the motion.
Nickerson praised the park improvements after attending a recent game, and McCoy said a Fighting Cranes Diamond League Baseball team plays at the field and that the group hopes to add a video board later this year.
