Airway Heights approves community court grant and two reimbursement grants totaling roughly $324,678

The Airway Heights City Council approved several grants July 6 that will fund court and reentry services.
Court Administrator Katie Dorman presented a renewal grant for the community court program for fiscal year 2027. Dorman said she requested $311,000 and the city will receive $294,678.56 to cover a full-time community court employee, officer Johnson's assigned time in the program, prosecutor and public defender time, staff time to manage the grant, approximately $20,365 for training and travel, and treatment services for program participants. Council voted to accept that grant unanimously.
Dorman also described two reimbursement grants: a post-conviction reimbursement request (she said she requested $60,000 and the state allocation yielded $10,000 to reimburse costs already paid for services such as electronic home monitoring, MRT classes, drug testing and ignition interlock); and a pretrial reimbursement award of $20,000 to help pay for monitoring and interlock costs for individuals who cannot afford them. Both reimbursement grants were approved by the council without recorded opposition.
What happens next: the grants will be added to the city budget where appropriate and staff will continue to track program spending and reimbursements as described in the grant documents.
