Library director outlines summer hours, programs and meal service; flags electricity costs

Library director Anna Jensen reported expanded summer hours, new and recurring programs, a summer meal site distributing 12 meals on its first day, facility updates and an electricity cost spike she said the library is investigating.
Anna Jensen delivered the library's quarterly update during the June 25 council meeting, outlining program changes, facility improvements and budget notes.
Jensen said the library will be open later on Tuesdays and Wednesdays through Labor Day (open until 6:30 p.m.), and highlighted recurring and special programs including Mahjong evenings, crochet nights, senior chair yoga starting in July, a historic-postcards program in partnership with local historical societies, a summer reading kickoff with free ice cream, a dino fossil dig and art afternoons for children.
She reported the library is a summer meal site (weekdays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., anyone 18 and under eligible) and said the first day of distribution gave out 12 meals but numbers may increase as the summer progresses. Jensen also described recent facility work (new fence around a heat pump, stripped and rewaxed floors for the first time since renovation) and noted an electricity expense overrun (about 80% of that line spent through April) that staff are investigating with Versant Power and internal accounting reconciliations.
Councilors thanked Jensen for the presentation and encouraged follow-up on energy-share/net-metering options and the upcoming financial compilation due in July.
