District staff told the David City Board of Education the district was in sound fiscal position with just over $8,000,000 in the general fund and about 79% of the fiscal-year budget spent with six weeks remaining. Staff said they will bring a complete budget breakdown during upcoming budget sessions and recommended some transfers (into lunch, activity and depreciation funds) in the next six weeks.
Staff also summarized a University of Nebraska–Lincoln literacy professional-development grant that provides about $65,000 per year for five years; the district pays costs up front and is reimbursed, and the district is preparing to start grant year three.
On facilities, staff shared a roof-assessment summary saying no immediate roof replacements were required for at least five years and presented a conceptual preschool addition attached to the east side of the elementary school: four classrooms connected to an interior hallway with a separate drop-off, a small dedicated playground area meeting preschool square-footage requirements, and roughly 16 parking spaces that could also be used for evening/weekend activities. Staff flagged storm-drain and water-main constraints behind the gym as factors that complicate building behind the gym and said HVAC cost estimates from a vendor are forthcoming.
Board members asked about playground requirements, morning drop-off logistics, gates and access for community use; staff said no decisions were required at the meeting and that more detailed plans and cost estimates will be presented as the project moves forward.
