David City board updates professional-boundaries and restraint-and-seclusion policies

The David City Board of Education approved updates to two district policies after committee review.
Policy 4025 (professional boundaries) was revised to replace references to the Remind communication platform with ParentSquare, to reflect ParentSquare’s acquisition of Remind, and to clarify language governing staff transporting students in private vehicles. Staff said policy and facilities committees reviewed the language and recommended the edits. Chair moved to adopt the updated policy as presented; the motion passed by board vote.
Policy 54-21 (use of restraint and seclusion) was reviewed at the committee level and staff recommended no wording changes to the policy itself but asked the board to adopt a two-page incident/report form used when a restraint or calm-down room is employed. Staff said the district trains a subset of staff (administrators, certain teachers and preschool staff) in the restraint protocol and that training occurs on an annual or biennial cycle depending on role. The board approved adding the incident form to the policy packet and adopted the recommendation.
Board members said the committee heard from the elementary principal and special-education director during the review and that the added documentation will increase transparency for the public and consistency in incidents reporting. Both policy actions passed in roll-call votes.
