Halifax — The Finance Committee voted July 13 to transfer $48,762 from the reserve fund under MGL c.40 §6 to cover contractual wage adjustments and contractual obligations that became effective July 1.
Chair Jim Walters read a breakdown of the requested reserve transfer: $3,000 for the town administrator; $3,044 for the principal assessor/appraiser; $17,228 for the police chief and deputy police chief; $17,117 for the fire chief; $7,161 for highway wages; and $1,117 for highway clerical. Committee members confirmed the contracts have been signed and executed.
Committee members asked for access to contract documents if they wished to review additional details; staff said contracts are on file and members may request copies. The motion to approve the reserve fund transfer carried by voice vote.
The transfer will be used to satisfy contractual obligations already negotiated and to ensure salaries align with FY27 tables used for advertising and recruitment. The committee noted that documentation for each contract will be available in the post‑record for public inspection and that the transfers will be posted with the usual municipal accounting disclosures.
