Commission backs adding 'Housing Revitalization' section to urban renewal plan to aid grant competitiveness

Aaron (Planning staff) presented an amendment to the general plan for urban renewal and urban development requested by Beyond Shelter Inc. Aaron said the new "Housing Revitalization" section distills housing objectives from the West Fargo comprehensive plan and identifies two priority housing investment areas and a new map of potential mixed-use infill housing sites.
Aaron said the amendment is intended to better position the city and nonprofit housing partners to compete for state and federal resources, such as low-income housing tax credits and other housing grants. He said the amendment does not replace existing general plan content but adds a section with implementation techniques and objectives.
Christopher Miller of Beyond Shelter Inc. was present in the audience but did not speak during the public hearing. Commissioners moved to recommend approval of the amendment to the City Commission; the motion was seconded and passed on a roll-call vote.
Next steps: the commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to the City Commission for final action.
