Engineer reports on Well 5 emergency drain, Sandy Drive award and planned transmission-line work

Engineer Wayne Johnson briefed the council on several infrastructure items at the May 14 meeting. He said NJDEP authorized the drain of the Well 5 emergency backwash frac tank on April 25, 2026, and that Suburban Consulting Engineers’ contracted hydrogeologist performed the work. Johnson said Rena Street final payment verification has been received and project closeout is underway.
Johnson told council he will reissue a resolution to award the Sandy Drive contract to Arawak, the low bidder, in the amount of $271,000 to meet NJDOT requirements. He also said he is coordinating with Mr. Nicholson on the Borough's water allocation permit and told council that the state is seeking to reduce the Borough's allocation because industrial demand has declined.
Separately, Johnson reported that ACE is scheduling line work on a 138 kV transmission line that skirts Newfield’s northern boundary and that helicopters will be used to deliver workers and materials to existing structures; County representative Bill Perna said he would forward information about ACE's planned work to the County.
Council received these updates as informational items; where actions were required (award reissuance, grant withdrawal, permit coordination) the engineer noted follow-up steps. The meeting minutes do not record public comment on these infrastructure matters.
