Mayor Grova presided over the Borough of Newfield’s regular meeting on June 11, 2026, where council members reviewed a slate of resolutions and ordinances, discussed selecting a roadway for a 2027 DOT reconstruction program and agreed to have a JIF official inspect damaged park bleachers before deciding whether to repair or remove them.
The council began with roll call and an overview of the agenda, which listed Resolutions No. 57-26 through 63-26 (including budget insertions tied to a JIF safety incentive and the Clean Communities program), two ordinances related to a land sale and proposed tree-removal protections, a 2027 Ford F‑250 purchase for public works, liquor license renewals and a mercantile license application for Jan Capri Eclectic Designs LLC. Mayor Grova read the items into the record but no formal votes on those agenda resolutions or ordinances are recorded in the minutes.
Engineer Wayne Johnson told the council the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s 2027 program is open and recommended the borough nominate a roadway that would complement streets repaved in recent work. Johnson framed the recommendation as a timing and prioritization matter for the borough’s public-works schedule.
Mr. Nicholson reported that bridge repair work on Rosemont has been awarded to a contractor; after discussion the council determined the borough is not responsible for the bridge’s maintenance or refurbishment.
Council members also noted that scheduled Conrail work on the borough’s railroad “crowing” was postponed due to an emergency; Mr. Carrow said he would contact Conrail to follow up.
On community events, Miss Renzi described a proposal—suggested by Mr. Carrow—to host monthly bands in the park with food trucks. Renzi said she would pay for the required certificate of insurance and Carrow said he would help cover band compensation through donations. Renzi also announced that the SJ Misfits will hold a kickball fundraiser on June 27.
Council discussed new landscaping around the park stage and flagged several bleachers that are “severely damaged.” Members agreed to request an inspection by a JIF official before making any decision about demolition or repair, putting the final choice on hold pending that review.
Mr. Curcio moved to adjourn the meeting; Mrs. Engle seconded the motion, and the meeting was adjourned at 6:57 p.m. The clerk’s record is signed by Toni L. Van Camp. The agenda also noted a Newfield Community Play Date scheduled for July 1 at 6 p.m.
What’s next: The minutes do not record votes on the resolutions and ordinances that appeared on the agenda; any formal action on those items will appear in future minutes or a subsequent meeting packet.
