At the December meeting, a planning staff member read a press release asking Mebane residents to apply for openings on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission (BPAC), with applications due by Friday, Jan. 23, 2026.
The announcement said the city seeks to fill two vacant city positions and one open city position. The term of service for the first vacant position runs through January 2028; the second vacant position runs through January 2029; and the open city position runs through January 2029. Applicants must be city residents and have experience or knowledge of bicycle and pedestrian matters and the Mebane bicycle and pedestrian transportation plan.
The staff member said the BPAC serves as an advisory body to the Mebane City Council and is supported by city planning staff; new members will be appointed by the council in February 2026. Interested residents were directed to contact the city's planning department for application materials and questions.
Members noted one application had been submitted and encouraged outreach to prospective candidates ahead of the deadline.
