The Oley Valley School District committee recognized Gabriel Galison of Oley Valley Middle School as a recipient of the 2026 HMH 180 awards, a district committee member said at the July 14 meeting.
The committee member read the district’s announcement and presented a trophy and plaque, noting Gabriel “advanced over 3 and a half grade levels of reading” while participating in the Read 180 intervention class. The release said the 180 awards — organized by HMH — honor students and educators who show academic growth in reading or math through the Read 180 or Math 180 programs.
Gabriel, accompanied by family, was invited to the meeting so the board and community could publicly recognize his achievement. A board member thanked Gabriel and his family and invited them to stay for the remainder of the meeting.
No formal action was recorded; the recognition was ceremonial. The committee moved on to standing committee reports after the presentation.
