Board President Dave opened the meeting by announcing that he and Kevin received an email at 1:00 a.m. from Rick Burmeister resigning his position as a board member because Burmeister is moving out of state. "Rick has been on the board a little more than a year and a half," Dave said, noting Burmeister served on the cell phone and bond steering committees.
Dave said the district will post an application for a temporary appointment at midnight and that the application deadline for that temporary appointment is midnight on the 20th. He emphasized the appointment is temporary through Dec. 31 and that anyone who wants to appear on the November ballot to serve the remainder of the term must separately file with the county clerk by the ballot filing deadline on the 21st. "So there's two separate, completely separate processes here," Dave said. The board indicated it may interview applicants and could seat an appointee as soon as its August meeting if the process moves quickly.
The board did not discuss specific candidates during the meeting. The temporary-appointment application will be posted on the district website, and the board said it will provide follow-up steps and timeline information on the site and at future meetings.
