Superintendent updates board on special‑education determination, a bus fire and summer projects

"There were no injuries," he said, and he described the investigative steps: Bridgeport police and the Bridgeport Fire Department responded and produced a report that the district added to the board packet. Martin said the West Virginia Fire Marshal’s office indicated it would not conduct a separate investigation given there was no fatality or suspicion of arson; the district is coordinating with risk insurance and intends to continue investigating the root cause.
On facilities and programs, Martin reviewed summer work: parking lots sealed and striped at Brewston and Terra/Tarrata, HVAC and boiler replacement plans, gym floor refinishing, digital sign placement discussions, playground equipment and other building maintenance priorities. He said he had been in contact with conference officials regarding possible changes to Preston High School’s athletic conference and that coaches requested a stakeholder survey to gather student‑athlete, parent and community input before any decision.
Board members asked questions about the bus incident investigation and fire‑safety recommendations; Martin said he had consulted with the state transportation director and the fire marshal and that the district had received the Bridgeport report for record.
